China Steps up Efforts in Disaster Prevention and Relief
China's Ministry of Agriculture will work to strengthen its efforts in flood mitigation and draught relief.
The Ministry will continue to improve its system to insure the immediate and transparent spread of information about disastrous situations. Meanwhile, it will also play a key role in appropriating disaster relief materials and funds to disaster-afflicted regions.
UN Statement Adopted Calling for End of Violence
The United Nations Security Council has called for an end to violence in Lebanon and stressed the urgency of securing a lasting, permanent and sustainable cease-fire.
In a presidential statement adopted by the Council at an emergency meeting, the Security Council affirms its determination to work without any further delay to adopt a resolution for a lasting settlement of the crisis, drawing on diplomatic efforts underway.
Energy Saving Work to be Reinforced
China will reinforce its work aimed at saving energy, according to Ma Kai, director of the National Development and Reform Commission.
He said efforts should be made to mainly reduce the energy consumption per unit of gross domestic product that China has vowed to cut down by 20 pct in the coming five years. Ma added the reduction will be made possible through energy saving projects and changes in the country's economic structure.
Large Shaanxi Tomb belonged to First Emperor's Grandmother
After more than a year's excavation and research in Shaanxi province, archeologists have concluded a large unearthed tomb belonged to the grandmother of Qinshihuang, the country's first emperor.
The tomb is about 30 kilometers southwest of Qinshihuang's famous mausoleum. It is 550 meters long and 310 meters wide. |
