New System to Warn of Tsunamis
People living in coastal areas are to be protected from tsunamis by a new early warning system.
The warning system will allow the Oceanic Environment Forecast Centre to alert coastal towns when a tsunami is about to strike, promised an expert with the centre. Work is expected to start on the new system by the end of the current five-year plan in 2010.
Saudi FM Asks for U.S. Intervention in Mideast Conflicts
Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal, after a meeting with U.S. President George W. Bush in the White House, has called on the U.S. intervention to stop the violent conflicts between Israel and Lebanese Hezbollah.
In addition to Saudi Arabia, the international community has called for an immediate cease-fire between Israel and the Lebanese Hezbollah, as the conflicts have killed over 300 Lebanese, wounded over 1000 and forced over 500,000 people to leave their homes.
Iran Asks Switzerland to Host Nuclear Talks
A Swiss newspaper has reported that Iran has asked Switzerland to host an international conference to help resolve issues related to its nuclear program.
Iran insists that its nuclear program is for civilian purpose and has thus far refused to yield to U.S. and EU pressure for giving up its uranium enrichment activities.
Toyota Recalls More Than 2,000 Lexus RX300 Vehicles in China
China's market watchdog says Toyota will recall more than 2,000 Lexus RX300 vehicles in China effective July 28 due to some hidden safety troubles.
According to the report, a rug fastener near the driver's seat on these cars was not properly fixed. If the fastener becomes loose, it may affect the movement of the fuel pedal, resulting in braking problems. |
